Scrub, Clean, And Sanitize: 3 Easy Tips For Cleaning Blinds

by Scarlett Ross

Window blinds work wonderfully for keeping your home cool, comfortable, and private. Unfortunately, they are notorious for collecting dust and grime. If you are like most people, you probably don't pay much attention to the cleanliness of your window treatments. While blinds might seem like a hassle to clean, the process doesn't need to be hard. With the right tips and tricks, you can make cleaning your window blinds a breeze.

So, how should you go about cleaning your blinds? Here are three helpful tips:

1. Remove Dust

Blinds typically collect a lot of dust – and quickly, too. Luckily, removing it isn't difficult. When you are vacuuming your home, use the brush attachment to quickly go over your blinds. Just make sure that all of the blinds are facing the same direction. Run the vacuum attachment over the blinds in the same direction your blinds sit. For example, move the vacuum attachment in a horizontal direction if your blinds sit horizontally.

If you have cloth blinds and you do not want to use a vacuum, don't worry. You can easily remove dirt and debris buildup on cloth blinds by using a rubber sponge. There's no need to wet it first. Just gently glide the sponge along the length of the blinds to remove dirt and debris.

2. Wipe Away Excess Water

If you have wood or faux wood blinds, you might be worried about using water. This is because water can cause significant issues with wooden blinds, such as warping. However, don't let that scare you. You can still use water to clean these blinds. However, you shouldn't soak them. Instead, use a wet or damp sponge to gently clean the blinds. When you are finished, use a dry cloth to remove any excess water. This will prevent the blinds from becoming damaged and warping.

3. Use a Tarp or Old Sheet

Blinds that need a deeper cleaning will need to be removed from the window. If you plan to clean them indoors, consider using a tarp or old sheet to protect your flooring from the water and cleaning chemicals. While this certainly isn't necessary, it will help you keep your home clean during the process. It will also make cleanup much easier, as you won't need to vacuum or mop your floor afterwards.

Cleaning your window blinds might seem like a difficult task, but it doesn't have to be. With these tips, you can make cleaning your blinds a quick and easy task. If your blinds just will not come clean, consider investing in a new set of blinds and use these tips to keep your blinds clean.

About Me

Gardening For Aesthetics

If you aren't interested in growing your own fruits and veggies, gardening becomes more about aesthetics than it does about functionality. I started thinking carefully about what I could do in order to make my yard more beautiful a few years ago, so I began tearing out the weeds and focusing on creating a more welcoming space. I added a few trees and shrubs, renovated my flower beds, and started focusing on finding ground covers that would look great. This blog is all about gardening to improve the aesthetics of your yard.
